Please read the following information carefully. If you still cannot find information about your case or any additional questions occur you can reach Visa section officers by email  info.consrugt@telia.com .

To apply for a tourist visa an applicant should submit the following papers:

  1. Completed visa application, national passport, one colour passport size photo, paid travel insurance (see How to apply for a visa for details);
  2. Confirmation letter from travel agency issued by an authorized hosting Russian travel agency which has a corresponding reference number. Tourist documents should contain personal data of the applicant such as full name, date of birth, passport number, dates of entry and departure to/from Russia, itinerary of the trip, reference and registration number of the Russian hosting agency, its official seal and signature of an authorized person. A consular officer has the right to ask you to provide the confirmation letter in original as well as additional documents to support your visa application such as plane/railway tickets to all points of your destination, receipts from your hosting tourist agency confirming payment for the trip and accommodation.
    Tourist visa could be processed within minimum 5 working days and can not be issued for a period longer than 30 days.
    Multiple tourist visas can be issued for the applicants if the relevant agreements between countries have been reached (currently for Austria, Hungary, Greece, India and Spain - please, contact us for details).

ATTENTION!

Hotel reservation itself is not enough to obtain a Russian tourist visa. However, hotel should be fully prepaid for the entire period of stay in Russia before you apply for a visa. While entering Russia with a tourist visa, please be prepared to provide confirmation letter with the reference number as well as return ticket with the exact date of departure from Russia at the border control point. You also may be asked to prove that you have sufficient funds for your travel.

After the visa is received it should be checked properly by the applicant (passport number, date of birth, term of validity, etc). Any misprints or inaccuracies should be reported immediately. A citizen of the European Union can visit the Russian Federation for business or commercial purposes or to attend a conference, exhibition, to participate in scientific, cultural and artistic activities, international sport events or official exchange programmes organised by twin cities using a facilitated procedure. 

To apply for a business visa an applicant should submit the following papers:

  1. Completed visa application, national passport, one colour passport size photo, paid travel insurance (see How to apply for a visa for details);
  2. One of the documents specified below in accordance with the purpose of your trip to Russia:

» For members of official delegation

Applicants following an official invitation, shall participate in meetings, consultations, negotiations or exchange programmes as well as in events held in Russia by the intergovernmental organizations:

- a letter issued by a competent authority of Sweden or another Member State of the EU, or by a European institution confirming that the applicant is a member of its delegation traveling to the territory of the Russian Federation (in original only) to participate in the aforementioned events, accompanied by a copy of the official invitation from the Russian governmental organization or intergovernmental institution.

A visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry (if a person is participating in official meetings, consultations, negotiations or exchange programmes as well as in events held on the territory of the Russian Federation by the intergovernmental organizations on a regular basis). Please note that visas for the persons mentioned in this Paragraph are free of charge.

» For business people and representatives of business organizations:

- a written request from a host legal entity or company, organization, or an office or their branches, state and local authorities of the Russian Federation or organizing committees of trade and industrial exhibitions, conferences and symposia held on the territory of the Russian Federation. The document can be submitted to the Consulate General in original and should contain the following information:

for the host organisation – full title, legal address of the organisation in the Russian Federation, tax registration number;

for the guest person - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, purpose and a period of the trip, number of entries.

IMPORTANT! An invitation must be signed by an authorized person and sealed with the official seal of the organization.

Please note that the Consulate General reserves the right to check all the information contained in the invitation.

A business visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry. For multiple re-entry visas the insurance should be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days and covers the whole period of the visa!

» For drivers engaged in international cargo and passenger transportation services between the territories of the Russian Federation and Sweden in vehicles registered in the Russian Federation or in one of the EU Member States:

A written request from the national association (union) of carriers of Sweden (in original only) providing for international road transportation, stating the purpose, duration and frequency of the trips and containing the following information:

for the organization - full title, legal address of the organization in Sweden, organization number;

for the driver - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, purpose and a period of the trip, number of entries.

IMPORTANT! An invitation must be signed by an authorized person and sealed with the official seal of the organization.

A visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry. For multiple re-entry visas the insurance should be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days and covers the whole period of the visa!

» For journalists (not for free-lance journalists) 

Journalists who are going to Russia to cover specific events, to obtain an interview in accordance with the employer’s task, etc. but not to work in Russia as an accredited journalist:

a) a certificate or other document issued by a Swedish professional organization proving that the person concerned is a qualified journalist (in original only);

b) a written request from the applicant’s employer stating that the purpose of the journey specified in the document is to carry out journalistic work (in original only) and containing the following information:

for the organization - full title, legal address of the organization in Sweden, organization number;

for the journalist - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, purpose and a period of the trip, number of entries.

IMPORTANT! An invitation must be signed by an authorized person and sealed with the official seal of the organization.

A visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry. For multiple re-entry visas the insurance should be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days and covers the whole period of the visa!

To apply for a humanitarian visa an applicant should submit the following papers:

  1. Completed visa application, national passport, one colour passport size photo, paid travel insurance (see How to apply for a visa for details);
  2. One of the documents specified below in accordance with the purpose of your trip to Russia:

» For persons participating in scientific, cultural and artistic activities, including university and other exchange programs:

- a written request from the host organization to participate in those activities, specified in the request (in original only) containing the following information:

for the host organization – full title, legal address of the organization in the Russian Federation, tax registration number;

for the guest person - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, purpose and a period of the trip, number of entries.

IMPORTANT! An invitation must be signed by an authorized person and sealed with the official seal of the organization.

A visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry. For multiple re-entry visas the insurance should be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days and covers the whole period of the visa!

» For pupils, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers 

For pupils, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake trips for the purposes of study or educational training, including in the framework of exchange programmes as well as other school related activities:

- a document, which proves that a person is a pupil, a student or a teacher. It can be a student card issued by the University or international student card or a letter from the person’s educational institution.

- a written request or a certificate of enrolment (in original only) from the host university, academy, institute, college or school or the courses to be attended containing the following information:

- for the host organisation - full title, legal address of the organisation in the Russian Federation, tax registration number;

- for the guest person - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, purpose and a period of the trip, number of entries.

IMPORTANT! An invitation must be signed by an authorized person and sealed with the official seal of the organisation.

Please note that this point only applies to a person, who is going to Russia for a short-term study, to attend courses or for a probation period.

» For participants in international sports events and persons accompanying them in a professional capacity (not for supporters or fans):

- a written request (in original only) from the host organization: competent authorities, national sport Federation of the Russian Federation or National Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation containing the following information:

- for the host organization - full title, legal address of the organization in the Russian Federation, tax registration number;

- for the guest person - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, purpose and a period of the trip, number of entries.

IMPORTANT! An invitation must be signed by an authorized person and sealed with the official seal of the organization.

A visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry. For multiple re-entry visas the insurance should be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days and covers the whole period of the visa!

Please note that participants in international youth sports events and persons accompanying them can get visas free of charge.

» For participants in official exchange programmes organised by twin cities:

- a written request (in original only) from the Head of Administration/Mayor of a Swedish city confirming that the applicant is a member of its delegation travelling to the twin city on the territory of the Russian Federation, accompanied by a copy of the official invitation from the Head of Administration/Mayor of a Russian twin city.

A visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry (if a person is participating in meetings, consultations, negotiations, exchange programmes or other events held in the territory of the Russian Federation by the authorities of twin cities on a regular basis). For multiple re-entry visas the insurance should be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days and covers the whole period of the visa!

After the visa is received it should be checked properly by the applicant (passport number, date of birth, term of validity, etc). Any misprints or inaccuracies should be reported immediately. To apply for aprivate visaan applicant should submit the following papers:

1. Completed visa application, national passport, one colour passport size photo, paid travel insurance (see How to apply for a visa for details);

2. Please, define type of your purpose of visit and prepare the documents according to the following information

» Visit to relatives or friends – citizens of the Russian Federation or non-EU countries

You need to submit an official invitation (originals only are accepted) issued by the General Administration for migration issues of the Interior Ministry of Russia (https://en.guvm.mvd.ru/)

 A person or organization inviting you to visit Russia (except citizens of the EU Member states, legally residing in Russia) applies for an invitation to the Local Office of the General Administration for migration issues of the Interior Ministry of Russia. Then the invitation should be sent directly to an applicant.

There is the possibility to apply with the invitation in the electronic form. In this case you should submit to the Consulate the special electronic form provided by the Local Office of the General Administration for migration issues of the Interior Ministry of Russia.

IMPORTANT! A private visa could be issued for the time limit indicated in your personal invitation only and would allow you to stay in Russia maximum 90 days (one entry or two entries are possible as per the invitation). The medical insurance should cover the entire period of the applicant’s stay in Russia and be valid for a consecutive period of 90 days.

» Visit to а relative – citizen of the European Union

A citizen of the European Union legally residing, working or studying on the territory of the Russian Federation can invite his close relatives – spouse, children (including adopted), parents (including custodians), grandparents and grandchildren using a facilitated procedure.

In this case you submit the documents mentioned in Point 1and  the following documents:

  • a written request (in original only) from the host person certified by a Russian Notarius Publicus. The written request should contain the specified information (for the host person - name, surname and the address in the Russian Federation;for the guest person - name, surname, date of birth, gender, citizenship, passport number, aim and a period of the trip, number of entries).
  • A copy of one of the following documents proving that the host person legally resides on the Russian territory: permanent or temporary residence permit, visa for work or study with the period of the validity for more than 90 days.
  • Documents which certify kinship between the host and guest persons. There can be certificates of birth, marriage, or name reverse. For the Swedish citizens it should be a Personbevis with all the necessary information. The documents mentioned above can be accepted only in Russian, English or Swedish.
  • IMPORTANT! Parents, grandparents, children (older than 21 years) and grandchildren can get a single entry visa for the period of not more than 90 days. The insurance policy should cover all the period of the applicant’s stay in Russia. Spouses and children (younger than 21 years) can get the visa with the period of the validity up to 5 years in accordance with the validity period of permission for the legal residence of the host person in Russia.

The visa can be processed in 10 running days and issued free of charge.
 Be informed, that the consular officer determines the period of processing your visa application. The period of processing can be prolonged up to 30 working days without a notification.
 

» Visit to а military or civil burial grounds

A citizen of the European Union can once a year visit a burial ground of his relatives using a facilitated procedure.

In this case you submit the documents mentioned in Point 1and  the following documents:

  • An official document confirming the existence and preservation of the grave;
  • Official documents confirming family or other relationship between the applicant and the buried. There can be certificates of birth, marriage or name reverse. For Swedish citizens it should be a personbevis with all the necessary information. The documents mentioned above can be accepted only in Russian, English or Swedish.

IMPORTANT! A visa to visit a burial ground can be single-entry for the period of not more than 14 days.

The visa can be processed in 10 running days.

Be informed, that the consular officer determines the period of processing your visa application. The period of processing can be prolonged up to 30 working days without a notification.
 

» Visit to the Russian Federation in case of serious illness or death of a close relative

A foreign citizen can visit the Russian Federation in case of a serious illness or death of a close relative. In this case you submit the documents mentioned in Point 1and  the following documents:

  • An official document confirming the fact of illness or death of a close relative. It can be a telegram confirmed by the doctor or a certificate of death (fax copy can be accepted);
  • Official documents confirming family relationship between the applicant and the sick or deceased person. There can be certificates of birth, marriage, or name reverse. For Swedish citizens it should be a Personbevis with all the necessary information. The documents mentioned above can be accepted only in Russian, English or Swedish.
  • The personal statement of an applicant, containing the request to issue a visa and the address in the Russian Federation where the applicant is planning to stay.

IMPORTANT! A single-entry visa can be issued in accordance with the decision of the Consul General for the period of not more than 30 days. It can be processed as soon as possible and issued free of charge.

After the visa is received it should be checked properly by the applicant (passport number, date of birth, term of validity, etc). Any misprints or inaccuracies should be reported immediately. The Consulate General assumes no responsibility for any discrepancies in visas which have not been brought to its attention prior to departure from Sweden.

Dear applicants,

A citizen of the Russian Federation who legally resides, works or studies on the territory of Sweden can invite his close relatives – spouse, children (under 18 years old), by taking advantage of a simplified procedure. 

Please note that this type of visa can be only single-entry or double-entry and can be issued max. for 90 days!

The following documents should be submitted from inviting person in this case:

  1. National passport in original, 

    Visa application form filled-out at http://visa.kdmid.ru;

    One recently taken colour passport-size picture (35 x 45mm)

    Certificate of paid travel insurance signed by an authorized officer and stating the name of the traveler, period of coverage and validity in Russia

  2. A written letter of request from a Russian citizen, addressed to the head of the Consulate General about the issue of a visa, for entry into Russia together with his or her family members, who are foreign nationals;

  3. A Russian passport of inviting person (foreign travel passport) in original and a copy of a page with photo;

  4. A Long-term Swedish visa or Resident permit (Uppehållstillstånd) or Swedish passport of inviting person;

  5. Official document which certifies relationship between the applicant and the invited person. Those could be, in particular, certificate marriage or Personbevis/ Familjebevis with all necessary information, signature and stamp of the officer of Skatteverket. The above-mentioned documents are accepted in Russian, English or Swedish.

Please read the following information carefully. To apply for a visa at the Consulate General you need to book an appointment at the website http://gothenburg.kdmid.ru/.

If a person wishes to travel through the Russian territory to another country he needs a transit visa. Please note that a transit visa is not required if you remain in the transit zone of the airport in order to catch an onward or connecting flight within 24 hours of arrival. Transit visa is normally valid for maximum of 3 days. 

Passengers travelling to the Republic of Belarus or the Republic of Kazakhstan via the territory of the Russian Federation must obtain Russian transit visas irrespectively of the duration of stay in the airport.

To apply for a transit visa an applicant should submit the following papers: 

  1. Completed visa application, national passport, one colour passport size photo, paid travel insurance (see How to apply for a visa for details);
  2.  A valid visa for the country of your destination;
  3. The original and a copy of your confirmed air ticket to and from Russia (confirmation of booking is not enough).

IMPORTANT! 

Consulate General considers applications for a transit visa only in case if a person doesn’t have possibility to travel directly from the country of their origin to the country of destination.

ATTENTION!

If you are intending to work or study in Russia for longer than 90 days, you should apply for a work or study visa, correspondingly. 

To apply for a work/study visa an applicant should submit the following papers: 

  1. Completed visa application, national passport, one colour passport size photo, paid travel insurance (see How to apply for a visa for details);

    Please note that in this particular case your passport should be valid at least 1,5 years after the date of issue of the visa;

    The medical insurance should cover the entire period of the applicant’s stay in Russia andbe valid for a consecutive period of 90 days.

  2. An official invitation for work or study  (originals only are accepted)  issued by the General Administration for migration issues of the Interior Ministry of Russia.   The invitation could be processed on behalf of the organization inviting you to visit Russia with work or study purposes by a Local Office of the General Administration for migration issues of the Interior Ministry of Russia. The original of the invitation should be sent to the applicant directly.
  3. According to the Russian legislation, a foreign citizen or a stateless person intending to have work or study visas (single, double or multiple) should submit an HIV-test certificate along with the visa application (as a rule, it should be made not later than 3 month ago).
